In patients with venous ulcer disease, the use of cream containing 2% papain applied to the wound area was compared to a control group using cream containing 2% carboxymethyl cellulose applied to the wound area over a period of 12 weeks. It was found that the group using the 2% papain cream achieved a significant reduction in wound area compared to the control group. (Rodrigues, A. L. S. et al., 2015)
